Congolese cuisine has a Japanese flavor

Writer: 義博 川上義博 川上

There are many foods that are typical of Congolese cuisine, but one that is popular is "fufu," a steamed bread made from cassava.

This is the main dish and is eaten with soup and side dishes.

The overall seasoning is similar to that in Japan, making it easy to eat.

When I visited previously, I was served okra, which was seasoned in a very Japanese way and was delicious.

The locals were surprised that we eat okra, so I told them that Japanese people like it.

There are many other types such as Pondu, Saka Saka, and Chikwanga, and we eat them all regularly.

Just hearing the names, you might not know what the dishes are, but they are all delicious.

After going there many times, I sometimes get a craving for Congolese food.

There is a lot of grilled fish and rice, so it's easy to eat.
